Ahoy, young adventurers! Join our local favorite Cap’n Will as he trains you on what it means to be a pirate. Learn the ropes, master maritime skills, and find out if you have what it takes to become a true pirate or if you’ll end up walking the plank! Plus, every ticket includes a Festival Adventure Pass for even more fun and excitement throughout the day!

F.A.Q.
What time should I be there?
Please arrive at least an hour before your scheduled start time in order to find parking and check in.
What should I bring?
Please make sure to have your ticket on your phone or printed out. As this event takes place on the deck of a ship, you will need to wear close-toed, close-heeled shoes. Pirate costumes are encouraged!
Where do I park?
There is no on-site parking at the festival. Please park at Dana Hills High School and take the shuttle to Ocean Institute. Check out our Parking and Shuttles page for more information.
Where do I check in?
You will check-in at the main ticketing tent in Ocean Institute’s parking lot. You will receive a wristband labeled with the time of your event. You can then proceed to the tall ship Spirit of Dana Point where the event will be held.
What is included?
- Your ticket includes admission to School for Scallywags, as well as the Festival Adventure Pass.
- The pass gives access to Ocean Institute’s exhibits and tours of all the visiting ships, for both days of the festival! The Institute and ships will open at 9:00 am. Ship tours will end at 2:00 pm to start battle preparations, so make sure to see those first!
- Children cannot attend School for Scallywags by themselves; adults must also purchase tickets.
What age is this for?
School for Scallywags is recommended for young pirates ages 5 to 8 years old. Younger ones might find it a little tricky, and older kids might be ready for bigger adventures. You know your little scallywag best; if you think they will enjoy the experience, we are happy to welcome them to our crew!
